How Santa Catalina got it's name!
Something you might wonder about Santa Catalina is how did it get its name? Well in 1602 November 24 the eve of Catherine's day the ship of the second Spainish explorer Sebastian Viscaino saw the island. Viscaino named the island Santa Catalina after in honor of saint Catherine but now is commomly known as Avalon. Buffalo on the island!
Another common question is about the "buffalo" or bison how did they get here? So actually 14 American bison were brought here for a movie in 1924 and they were left free to roam when the filming was over and the herd grew significantly and now theres about 150 to 200 bison on the island do to population control the bison are slowly The Casino!
